Students are expected to master about 1000 lexicons and about 150 items of grammar through integrated training of listening, speaking, reading, and writing, and acquire basic communication competence in elementary Korean and meet the general needs of communicating in Korean context. The first stage of this course is focused on teaching pronunciation where vowels, consonants, and rules of pronunciation are concerned. The second stage of this course is centered on grammar where sentence structures are basic in training and practicing, as well as basic knowledge of grammar.

On completing this course, the students will be able to listen intensively and extensively, and to express themselves properly. It helps the students to build up their vocabulary and provide them with an introduction to some relevant background knowledge. It also enables the students to comprehend and make simple conversations. This course is divided into three phases.
