Application Guide for

International Chinese Language Teachers Scholarship 2021

  

  

The International Chinese Language Teachers Scholarship, provided by the Center for Language Education and Cooperation (CLEC), invites applications from overseas Chinese language teachers. This scholarship serves the purpose of satisfying the growing demands of the international communities for qualified Chinese language teachers, and facilitating international education of Chinese language outside of China. The applications to Beijing Language and Culture University (BLCU) in particular for such a scholarship should follow the guidelines below, a version with reference to the Application Guide for International Chinese Language Teachers Scholarship 2021 released by CLEC:

  

  • I. ELIGIBILITY

    All applicants shall be:

    a) non-Chinese citizens;

    b)in good physical and mental conditions, with good academic performance and conduct;

    c) committed to the Chinese language education and related work;

    d) between the ages of 16 and 35 (as of September1, 2021). Applicants currently working as Chinese language teachers shall not be over 45 years old, while undergraduate student applicants shall not be over 25 years old.

      

  • II. SCHOLARSHIP TYPES AND QUALIFICATIONS

  1. Scholarship for Master’s Degree in Teaching Chinese to Speakers of Other Languages (MTCSOL)

    The program commences in September 2021 and provides scholarship for a maximum of two academic years. Applicants shall hold a Bachelor’s degree, and have a minimum score of 210 on the HSK Test (Level 5) as well as 60 on the HSKK test (Intermediate Level). Priority will be given to applicants who may provide a work contract with a teaching institution upon completing their studies in China or a written proof to the same effect. 

      

  2. Scholarship for Bachelor’s Degree in Teaching Chinese to Speakers of Other Languages (BTCSOL)

    The program commences in September 2021 and provides scholarship for a maximum of four academic years. Applicants shall hold a senior high school diploma and a minimum score of 210 on the HSK Test (Level 4) as well as 60 on the HSKK test (Intermediate Level).  

      

C.Scholarship for One-Academic-Year Study

The program commences in September 2021, and provides scholarship for a maximum of 11 months. International students currently studying in China are not eligible. This scholarship is classified into two types:

      1. Chinese Language Study

        Applicants shall have a minimum score of 210 on HSK Test (Level 3).Priority will be given to applicants who provide an HSKK test score.

      2. TCSOL (Teaching Chinese to Speakers of Other Languages)

        Applicants shall have a minimum score of 270 on HSK Test (Level 3), and an HSKK test score is required.

          

  1. Scholarship for One-Semester Study

    The program commences either in September 2021 or March 2022, and provides scholarship for a maximum of 5 months. Applicants holding the X1 or X2 visa are not eligible. Applicants shall have a minimum score of 180 on the HSK Test (Level 3), and an HSKK test score is required.

    This scholarship only has one professional field: Chinese Language and Literature

      

  2. Scholarship for Four-week Chinese Study

An HSK test score is required. The scholarship is funded for a four-week program. The organization and registration of the participants (with 10-15 participants per group) are charged by a recommending institution. Applicants holding the X1 or X2 visa are not eligible. Students will be placed into different level classes according to their Chinese language proficiency and choose one of the slots below to study with other international students. If the group forms one class on its own, commencement date can be negotiated.

Jun. 30 - Jul. 27, 2021 (4-week)

Jul. 21 - Aug. 17, 2021 (4-week)

Aug. 4 - 31, 2021 (4-week)

Dec. 29, 2021 - Jan. 25, 2022 (4-week)

  • III. COVERAGE

International Chinese Language Teachers Scholarship provides full coverage on tuition fee, accommodation fee, living allowance (four-week study students are excluded) and comprehensive medical insurance expenses.

  

  • IV. APPLICATION PROCEDURES

    Online registration will be available from March 1, 2021 on International Chinese Language Teachers Scholarship website (cis.chinese.cn).

    Please log on to search for recommending institutions and host institutions, upload application materials online, track the application progress, comments and results. Scholarship holders need to confirm with BLCU to go through the procedures of studying in China, print out the scholarship certificate online, and register at BLCU on the designated date and time as per the letter of admission.

    The application dates and deadlines (Beijing Time):

    1. Apr. 15, 2021 (4-week summer program)

    2. May 15, 2021 (for those commencing in September)

    3. Sept. 15, 2021 (for those commencing in December)

    4. Nov. 15, 2021 (for those commencing in March 2022)

        

      CLEC will entrust an expert panel to review the applications. Decisions will be made based on HSK and HSKK scores and levels, and in consideration of country distribution as well as other factors. The results will be published about three months before the school starts.

        

  • V. CHINESE BRIDGE AWARD RECIPIENT POLICIES

Chinese Bridge winners who have been awarded the 2021 International Chinese Language Teachers Scholarship shall log onto the International Chinese Language Teachers Scholarship website and submit documents to BLCU upon presentation of their scholarship certificates.

  • VI.Application Documents for International Chinese Language Teachers Scholarship

    For All Applicants

  1. A scanned copy of passport photo page

  2. A scanned copy of score reports of the HSK and HSKK tests (within the two-year validity)

  3. A reference letter by the head of the recommending institutions.

  4. A certification of the highest education diploma (or proof of expected graduation)

      

    Degree Programs Application Documents

    i. For Master’s Degree in Teaching Chinese to Speakers of Other Languages (MTCSOL)

    1. A scanned copy of an official undergraduate transcript.

    2. 2 reference letters from professors or associate professors. Priority will be given to applicants who may provide a work contract with a teaching institution or relevant proof upon completing their studies in China.

    3. A study plan (including CV, education background, Chinese language proficiency, personal statement on research ability, research proposal, and career plan) above 800 Chinese words. This should be scanned and uploaded in Education Background section.

      ii.For Bachelor’s Degree in Teaching Chinese to Speakers of Other Languages (BTCSOL)

      a) a certification of official transcript for the highest education

  • Other Required Application Documents

  1. For student under the age of 18, their parents should entrust a non-Chinese citizen residing in China or a Chinese residing in Beijing with

    the student’s guardianship, and provide notarized guardianship guarantee statement.

  2. Applicants currently working as Chinese language teachers shall provide the proof of employment as well as a reference letter by the employer.

Note:

  1. Applicants for one-semester and four-week program scholarship who withhold X1 or X2 visa are not eligible. Passport pages will be checked upon registration. Those who withhold visas X1 or X2 will be deprived of scholarship. All the consequences caused by providing false documents shall be borne by applicants themselves.

  2. Additional documents will be required by BLCU on certain conditions.

  2. Degree-seeking students are subject to the annual assessment according to the Annual Appraisal Procedures of International Chinese Language Teachers Scholarship.

  3. Those who failed to register on time, failed to pass the health assessment, dropped out midway and/or suspended from school will be deprived of their scholarship.

  4. Each applicant can only apply for one scholarship provided by Chinese government. Multiple applications for different scholarships will be considered invalid and such applicants will be disqualified from scholarship.
