  Beijing is an ancient city with a history of more than 3,000 years, during which it served as a capital for more than 800 years.        Located at 39.56 degrees north latitude and 116.2 degrees east longitude, Beijing lies on the north end of the North China Plain. Beijing borders the city of Tianjin and Hebei Province.
       Landform Beijing is surrounded by mountains to its west, north and northeast. It stands on the North China Plain that slopes gradually to the Bo Hai (Bo Sea). The average altitude of Beijing’s plains areas is 20–60 metres above sea level while that of its mountainous areas is 1,000–1,500 metres. At 2,303 metres, the Donglingshan Mountain, in northwest of Mentougou District, is Beijing’s highest peak.

       Economic Strength Based on its permanent population, Beijing's per capita GDP is converted to US$12,447 by the annual exchange rate, having reached the level of relatively wealthy countries, according to the standards set by the World Bank.
