2025 Application Guide for “Chinese Government Scholarship - The Silk Road Program” of Beijing Language and Culture University

I. Application Eligibility

1. Applicants must be a citizen of a country other than the People’s Republic of China, and be in good mental and physical health;

2. The requirements for applicants’ degree and age are that applicants must:

be a high school diploma holder or equivalent and no more than 25 years old when applying for the bachelor’s programs;

3. Other kinds of Chinese Government Scholarships are not obtained at the same time.

II. Scholarship Coverage and Standards

This program is open to applicants applying for bachelor’s degree only. And applicable undergraduate majors are as follows:

1. Chinese LanguageChinese Language Direction and Economics and Trade Direction);

2. TranslationEnglish-Chinese/ Korean-Chinese; For foreign students only;

3. International Economics and Trade.

The Silk Road Program provides a full scholarship which covers tuition waiver, on-campus accommodation, comprehensive medical insurance and stipend ( 2,500 RMB/month for bachelor degree).

III. Application Procedure

1. Log in “CGS Information Management System for International Students” http://www.campuschina.org, and click “Scholarship Application for students” to enter the application system, then fill out the application information, submit online the completed Application Form for Chinese Government Scholarship, print a hard copy, and upload all the application documents. (Study Abroad Program category: B, the Agency Number of Beijing Language and Culture University is 10032).

2. Log in the Online Application System for International Students of BLCU (https://apply.blcu.edu.cn), fill out the application information online, and then upload all the application documents and the completed electronic version of Application Form for Chinese Government Scholarshipdownloaded from CGS Information Management System.

*Please note to select the correct application path for the Silk Road program in BLCU’s Online Application System, “Add course-Select Category-Bachelor Student-Major labeled 2025 Silk Road Program (as shown in the picture below)”


3. Applications should be submitted online by April 30, 2025. Applications will not be considered after the deadline.

4. After receiving all the application documents, BLCU will review each applicant’s documents in detail and organize a telephone or remote interview for those applicants who pass the verification of the first round. Please make sure that the phone number on the application form works and the email address is correct.

5. Applicants who pass the verification of the application for admission will be selected as candidates for the Chinese Government Scholarship-The Silk Road Program and be nominated to China Scholarship Council for the final evaluation.

6.Please check the final evaluation results through personal account on the official website of China Scholarship Council. It will take a long time to review all the application documents. Please be patient.

7.Applicants who pass the verification of the application for admission of BLCU but are not qualified for the Chinese Government Scholarship -The Silk Road Program can directly pursue self-financed study in BLCU or apply for the Beijing International Students scholarship.

IV. Online Application Documents

Note: Incomplete application documents will not be processed and BLCU has the right to require applicants to provide any other supplementary materials.

1. Application Form for Chinese Government Scholarship (Please follow step 1 of the Application Procedure to download and fill out the form and follow step 2 to upload it);

2. A copy of the applicant’s passport home page. If the validity of the applicant’s current passport does not meet the requirement (meaning the passport expires before March 2026), please apply for a new passport before submitting the application;

3. High school diploma. Prospective diploma recipients must submit an official pre-graduation letter issued by their current school to prove the current student status and expected graduation date. Once admitted, applicants must resubmit the graduation certificate before registration. If the documents required cannot be provided on schedule, the admission qualification will be canceled.

4. High school transcripts of all semesters. Documents in languages other than Chinese or English must be attached with notarized Chinese or English translations.

5. Certificate of HSK:

a.The “4-year bachelor’s program” applicants should submit a score report of HSK level 4 with a minimum component score of 60;

b.The “1-year preparatory program + 4-year bachelor’s program” applicants should submit a score report of HSK level 3 with a minimum component score of 60.

* Students whose HSK level does not reach Level 3 is not qualified to apply for Chinese Government Scholarship-The Silk Road Program.

6. A study plan proposal. A study plan written in Chinese or English shall contain more than 200 characters or words.

7. A Recommendation Letter from high school teachers. Please attach signature and valid contact information of corresponding teachers.

8. Applicants under the age of 18 should submit the valid documents of their legal guardians in China.

9. The photocopy of Foreigner Physical Examination Form. (The original copy will be kept by applicant and the form is uniformly printed by Chinese healthy quarantine departments and it must be written in English.) The physical examinations must cover all of the items listed in the Foreigner Physical Examination Form. Incomplete forms or forms without the signature of the attending physician, or the official stamp of the hospital, or a sealed photograph of the applicant are considered as invalid. Please carefully plan your physical examination schedule as the result is valid for only 6 months.

10. Non-criminal certificate. The applicant shall submit a valid certificate of Non-Criminal Record issued by the local public security authority, usually issued within 6 months prior to the submission date of the application.

11. A copy of the receipt of the application fee. The registration fee is 800 RMB, which can be paid online or by telegraphic transfer. This expense is non-refundable.

*Note:

1. Uploaded supporting documents must be clear, authentic and valid. Applicants are recommended to use a professional device to scan the relevant documents. Applicants shall bear the consequences caused by unclear or unidentifiable uploaded materials.

2. Documents in languages other than Chinese or English must be attached with notarized Chinese or English translations.

V. Other Tips

1.Scholarship holders must complete the registration according to the schedule specified by the school. Scholarship will not be retained for those who fail to register for no reason before the deadline and they will be disqualified for admission.

2.Scholarship holders must participate in the scholarship annual review according to the regulations. The scholarship will be suspended or canceled for those who fail to pass the review.

3. In principle, the scholarship holders shall not change the admitted institution, the major and duration of study.

4. Scholarship holders are not allowed to receive other scholarships (excluding one-time awards) provided by governments at all levels and admission colleges in China at the same time. Once found, they will be disqualified and return Chinese government scholarship. For those who deliberately conceal the funding fact, they are not allowed to apply for China government scholarships within 3 years, except for disqualification.
