Class Hours and Credits
1. The college adopts a course credit system. At the end of each semester, all students who finally pass the examination of a certain course will be granted credit points for that course.
2. The number of credit point is normally equal to the number of class hours per week.
3. All students in lower elementary level (初级 上) are required to study 20 hours of compulsory courses per week. Those in upper elementary level (初级 下) are required to study 18 hours of compulsory courses and 0-2 hours of elective course per week.
4. All students in the intermediate level are required to take 6 hours of compulsory courses per week and an additional 6–14 hours of elective courses per week.
5. All students in the advanced level are required to take 6 hours of compulsory courses per week and an additional 6-12 hours of elective courses per week.

This is a compulsory course that provides comprehensive language skill training. The student will be equipped with fundamental communication skill via lectures of basic Chinese vocabulary and grammar as well as comprehensive practices of listening, speaking, reading and writing. There are 2 formats of classes for this level.
Elementary Chinese A (compulsory): This is a primary lecture class, including basic Chinese vocabulary and grammar learning.
Elementary Chinese B(compulsory): This is a practice class, reviewing and practicing what are learned in Elementary Chinese A. Practical skills on listening, speaking, reading and writing comprehension will all be trained.

This is a reading and writing skill cultivation class. It aims at advancing the student’s reading ability and teaches basic reading strategy and skill. From the reading content, the student will learn about the complex structure of Chinese writing and short articles which will be used to improve the student’s basic and practical writing skills.

Language is a part of culture, and culture is a part of history. Understanding Chinese history can help you better understand Chinese culture: why it is like this way versus not like that way. Why Chinese people's thoughts, ideas, morals, traditions, and social situations are like this way versus not like that way. Why there are countries whose culture has similar aspects to Chinese culture and others whose culture is very different from Chinese culture. After learning about Chinese history, perhaps you will better understand why Chinese culture is like this way versus not like that way. History influences culture, and culture influences language: why do Chinese people say the same thing in this way but not in that way. Why Chinese characters and calligraphy are the way they are, and why many Chinese idioms have strong ties to Chinese history. Chinese food, clothing, housing, and transportation, Chinese holidays, characteristics of food culture, styles of human interaction, and ways of doing things, all of these are very much connected to the development of Chinese history. Understanding Chinese history will help you understand Chinese culture more fully, which will then help you use Chinese more authentically and appropriately.
This course will introduce you to Chinese history through a wealth of historical documents and information. There are many different presenting ways to learn, such as: audio, text, pictures, maps, numbers, video, audio, etc. The difficulty level is between HSK level 4 and 5. If you are an intermediate level student, then you can learn the language and learn about history at the same time. And the course will also introduce some folk adages, idiomatic phrases, and allegorical sayings. Through various teaching forms and classified explanations, students will learn and know more than 700 terms of Chinese idioms.

This course provides practical training on Translation and Interpretation. Taking ideological and political education as the general direction and objective, this course aims at enriching the knowledge system, comprehensive quality and discipline vision of international students from multiple perspectives, introducing the development context and overview of Chinese history, enabling students to comprehensively and deeply understand all aspects of Chinese historical development, thus promoting students to establish a correct and positive outlook on China. Encourage students to compare the historical development of China and other countries in the world, and promote the communication and exchange between international students in the connection of Chinese history and world history. Through practical training and enlargement of vocabularies, students could write different styles of composition properly with correct grammar and proper expression.
