Central Base for Teaching Chinese as a Foreign Language

♦ As a central base for Teaching Chinese as a Foreign Language, the university recruited China’s first class of Master’s students specializing in Teaching Chinese as a Foreign Language in 1986, being the first in China to offer Teaching Chinese as a Foreign Language as a research focus under the Linguistics and Applied Linguistics PhD program and the first to set up the Ph.D. program of Teaching Chinese to Speakers of Other Languages “.


♦ BLCU offers an ever-increasing range of specializations, currently including 15 authorized disciplines for doctoral degrees and 30 disciplines for Master’s degrees. The authorized subjects touch on Chinese Language and Literature, Foreign Languages and Literature, Education, Psychology, Politics, Marxist Theory, History, and Computer Science in the five major fields of Literature, Education, History, Law and Engineering. All of these fields are open to international students.


♦ BLCU not only focuses on using high quality education to enable international students to both master theoretical knowledge and practical skills, but focuses even more on embracing the humanities. By increasing the all-around education of international students, BLCU is striving to cultivate the next generation of cultural ambassadors of peace, global citizenry, and youth leadership.



Abundant Resource for Academic Research

♦ BLCU has a set of high quality research institutes and research organizations. Its 
Research Center for Teaching Chinese as a Foreign Language has been admitted by the Ministry of Education as a “Ministry of Education 100 Important Research Bases in Humanities and Social Sciences”. This is the only nationally recognized important research base in the field of Teaching Chinese as a Foreign Language.


♦ The HSK Center, Language Research Institute, Applied Linguistics Research Institute, Capital International Culture Research Base, etc. provide superior hardware and software for a high standard of research.


♦ The United Nations Research Center, Comparative Literature Research Institute, Chinese Culture Research Institute, Sinology Research Institute, Research Center for Oriental Studies , etc. create a favorable environment for research in each of the respective fields.


♦ BLCU-published journals such as “Language Teaching and Linguistic Studies”, “Chinese Teaching in the World” and “Chinese Culture Research”, keep a close relationship with graduate students. The journals contain fresh  research and command widespread influence.



♦ Currently, BLCU has established cooperation and exchange relations with over 280 universities and educational organizations in more than 50 countries. BLCU has also signed agreements for foreign exchange of graduate students with several famous institutes of higher education, and sends graduate students overseas to participate in teaching internships and cultural experience activities. International students at BLCU can use this opportunity to visit a third country and add related credit to their transcripts.
