Guide for Freshmen in Hainan Campus
I. General Introduction to the Zone
The Hainan Campus of Beijing Language and Culture University is situated in the Hainan Lingshui Li'an International Education Innovation Experimental Zone, on the scenic Lingshui Peninsula, adjacent to the resort city of Sanya, with convenient transportation. Nestled at the north latitude of 18°, the campus enjoys a tropical monsoon climate, characterized by its warm winters without extreme cold. By June 2023, the experimental zone had inked agreements with a total of 22 universities, comprising 10 domestic and 12 international partner universities.
Located in Lingshui Li Autonomous County, Hainan Province, the park with a planned area of 12.72 square kilometers is jointly constructed by the Ministry of Education and Hainan Province. The aim of it is to cultivate international, high-quality and compound talents by combining domestic and foreign high-quality education resources. Currently, the institutions that have established a presence in the park include Beijing University of Posts and Telecommunications, Communication University of China, Beijing Sport University, Minzu University of China, and University of Electronic Science and Technology of China.
Presently, the park has been approved for the following 5 Sino-foreign cooperative education institutions (projects): Queen Mary School Hainan, Beijing University of Posts and Telecommunications, Coventry College, Communication University of China, Alberta International School of Recreation, Sport and Tourism of Beijing Sport University, Middlesex College of Minzu University of China, Glasgow College Hainan, University of Electronic Science and Technology of China, as well as 3 Sino-foreign cooperative education projects such as undergraduate education project of Digital Media Technology specialty co-offered by Communication University of China and Abertay University from the UK, the master's program in New Media co-offered by Communication University of China and Michigan State University in the USA, and the undergraduate program in Data Science and Big Data Technology co-offered by Minzu University of China and City University of Macau. Five universities, including Southeast University, Beijing University of Posts and Telecommunications, University of Electronic Science and Technology of China, Tianjin University, and Tongji University, have implemented separate postgraduate enrollment plans. Chang'an University and our university have welcomed international students for study.

I. Library
1.Introduction:
The library boasts a total built-up area of 80,988 square meters, featuring 19 floors above ground, a 4-story base building, and 2 basement levels, with an overall height of 90.8 meters. The tower's design is inspired by a lighthouse, standing by the water's edge and serving as a beacon to guide students in their quest for knowledge and the future; meanwhile, the base building's design draws its inspiration from Hainan's provincial flower, the bougainvillea.
2.Library collection resources:
Currently, the library (Phase I) boasts a collection of 29,000 physical books, a vast array of 100,000 digital titles in a book waterfall format, and 64 e-books available on e-ink displays. It provides access to a range of scholarly databases for searching and downloading content, such as China National Knowledge Infrastructure (CNKI), Engineering Village (EI), ACM Digital Library, cnpereading for foreign language e-books, the World Library e-books database, and the Bridgeman Art Library for global art archives.
Meanwhile, 6 database systems of Hainan Education and Scientific Research Digital Library can be employed online to inquire, i. e. MET English learning resource library for all, information literacy education database system V1.0, “Course Ideology and Politics” new era university course ideological and political database, Star of Imagination - Popular Books, Softtone (computer skills self-help network video learning system) and YST (computer software material learning resource database system).
3.Zoning function:
The Li’an University Town Library (Phase I) occupies spaces in Buildings A, B, and C, from the basement level to the third floor of each, with a total area of 23,000 square meters and 983 reading seats. The basement level serves as the book sorting and processing area of the library and is not accessible to readers, while each of the first three floors is equipped with bathrooms and pantries.
4.Services for readers:
Paper literature:
(1)Use self-service book lending and returning machines to borrow and return books.
(2)Reserve books through the 24-hour self-service book lending and returning machine service.
(3)Borrow books through the seamless borrowing channel.
(4)For books not available in the library, log into the Hainan Provincial Education and Scientific Research Digital Library to access shared resources and interlibrary loan services among 24 universities within the province.
Digital resources:
(1)The library and the databases of the Hainan Provincial Education and Scientific Research Digital Library are available for 24-hour query and download.
(2)E-books on e-ink screens can be borrowed by scanning a QR code.
(3)E-books in the waterfall format can be downloaded to your phone for reading by scanning a QR code.

II. Campus Network
1.Coverage area: Campus-wide networks are available in areas such as teaching buildings and living quarters within the park; for example, the public teaching building network is labeled JXL, and the second dormitory living area is SHEQ;

III. Campus Card
Campus card (i. e. “campus all-in-one card”) is a universal identification and consumption card for students and faculty on campus, primarily used for dining in the cafeteria, shopping at supermarkets, borrowing books, and accessing dormitories. New international students can receive their campus card during registration upon arrival.

Precautions:
(1)The campus card is for personal use only and cannot be transferred to others. Please keep it properly.
(2)In case of any damage or loss, please go to the one-stop service hall to handle the necessary procedures.
(3)Do not bend, punch holes, fold, or expose the card to high temperatures. Please keep the card surface bright and clean;
Life Chapter
I. Catering
There are currently two student canteens on campus, including Canteen No. 1 and Canteen No. 2.
Payment method: Dining at the canteens can be done using the campus card, or by paying with WeChat Pay and Alipay.
Introduction of stall:
Canteen No. 1 is located on the northeast side of the Public Experiment Building. The basement level of the canteen features specialty stalls offering a variety of unique flavors, mainly featuring self-service Chinese cuisine, small bowl dishes, Taiwanese braised pork rice, beef noodles, Hainanese specialties, Sichuan Dandan noodles, hot pot, grilled dishes, hamburgers, and drinks from the popular chain "MIXUE Ice Cream & Tea".
The first floor is featured by Chinese food, with a focus on barbecue, hot pot, fermented rice wine residue dishes, special stir-fries, and unique Chinese dishes.
The second floor is dedicated to Western cuisine, self-service group meals, and private dining rooms for reception.

Canteen No. 2 is located in the second living area. The first floor of the canteen features a general dining area, hamburgers, fruit salads, and a specialty Hainan rice noodle stall; the ethnic cuisine section (Lanzhou hand-extended noodles) is a halal stall.
The second floor features stalls for hot pot, clay pot noodles, Korean-style grilled meat mixed rice, dumplings, and Guilin rice noodles.
The first floor of the public teaching building is equipped with COTTI COFFEE and self-service supermarket.
II. One-Stop Service Hall
The one-stop service hall is located on the first floor of Building 3,in the second student living area, offering service windows for campus "all-in-one card" services, dormitory maintenance, space reservations, service consultations, complaints and suggestions, lost and found, and payment transactions.

III. Accommodation
(I) Room type
1. Double room single bed (210cm*90cm)
Four-person bunk beds (210cm*95cm)
Warm Tip: This room type is currently arranged for two people to stay.
(II) Supporting facilities:
1. Bed specifications and supporting supplies: Each bed comes with a mattress, bedding, and pillows. Other bedding items include a set of sheets, duvet cover, and pillowcases.

2. Independent bathroom and balcony:
Each room features a private bathroom and balcony, equipped with a washing machine and a foldable clothesline. The dormitory provides continuous water, electricity, and air conditioning supply 24/7.
3. Other facilities:
The rooms include desks, wardrobes, air conditioners, electric kettles, etc. Other items need to be purchased by the residents themselves.
(III) Public facilities in the dormitory building:
1.Public facilities:
The first floor of the living area is equipped with discussion room, meditation room, 24-hour study room, group activity room and other public areas, which students can use after making a reservation.
2.Shared kitchen
Each floor in the dormitory building is provided with a public kitchen, which is equipped with an induction cooker, a microwave oven and a public refrigerator, allowing for use according to own needs.
Location of the shared kitchen in Building 1: Rooms 373 and 374 on the 3rd floor, Room 476 on the 4th floor, Room 576 on the 5th floor, and Room 676 on the 6th floor.

IV. Medical Treatment
(I) Medical clinic
The medical clinic is located on the first floor of Building 2 in Student Living Zone 2, equipped with functional departments such as general clinic, pharmacy, test room, physical examination room, physiotherapy room, electrocardiogram room, observation room, debridement room, etc.; doctors are on duty 24 hours a day, allowing students to undergo medical check-ups, receive treatment, and enjoy traditional Chinese medicine health care at the clinic.
Working hours: 08:00-13:00, 14:30-23:00
From 13:00 to 14:30 and from 23:00 to the next day at 07:00, doctors and nurses rest in their respective duty rooms. If medical attention is needed during these times, please knock on the doctor's duty room door to summon the doctor or call the clinic's duty phone.

(II) Off-campus hospital
Lingshui County People's Hospital is a public hospital located in Lingshui Li Autonomous County, Hainan Province. Its main departments include Internal Medicine Department, Surgical Department, Rehabilitation Department, Pathology Department, Laboratory Department, Medical Imaging Department, Anesthesiology Department, Functional Department, Health Care Department, and Infection Department, etc.

Registration reservation method:
1. Mobile phone reservation: Search for "Lingshui County People's Hospital" on WeChat, follow it, and book an appointment by binding your information number.

The new campus of Lingshui Li Autonomous County People's Hospital, currently under construction, is a modern comprehensive hospital. It is approximately a 12-minute drive from the park. Upon completion, it will bring more convenience for medical treatment to the faculty and students of the experimental zone.

V. Shopping
1. You can buy daily essentials at the park's supermarket or at the shops in the nearby Dadun Village. Should you wish to visit a larger shopping mall, head to Lingshui County you can go to Lingshui County (about 16km from the experimental zone).
2. For online purchases, the shipping address is Building 5, Student Living Zone 2, Binhai Campus, Hainan Lingshui Li'an International Education Innovation Experimental Zone. You can collect your packages from the express post located inside the park.
VI. Traffic
(I) Transportation outside the campus
Group airport pick-up: The school will arrange a bus for picking up according to the number of group students.
The distance from Sanya Phoenix International Airport to Hainan Campus is about 88 kilometers, and the required time is about 1.5 hours.
The distance from Haikou Meilan International Airport to Hainan campus is about 218 kilometers, and the required time is about 3 hours.
Individual travel:
1.High-speed Railway around Hainan Island:
(1) After arriving at Haikou Meilan International Airport or Sanya Phoenix International Airport, you can go to the high-speed railway station in the airport and take the high-speed railway around Hainan Island to Lingshui station.
(2) There are three options for arriving from the airport to the high-speed railway station, as follows:
①Meilan Station to Lingshui Station: After taking checked baggage at Haikou Meilan International Airport, you can go to the high-speed railway station according to the instructions.
②Sanya Station to Lingshui Station:
A.After picking up the checked baggage at Sanya Phoenix International Airport, you can directly take a high-speed train from Phoenix International Airport Station to Lingshui Station.
Reminder: There are only two preferential trains per day, C7471 (departure time is 17:07) and C7471 (departure time is 21:58), and other trains are west line around the Hainan Island, so the cost is higher.
B.From Phoenix International Airport, you can take a high-speed train to Sanya Station, or take a taxi to Sanya Station (approximately 11 kilometers away), and then from Sanya Station, you can take a train directly to Lingshui Station (with more train options, making it convenient for scheduling your trip).
2.Bus route
(1) Bus No. 91: After arriving at Lingshui Station, students can take Bus No. 91 to the park
(3) Weekend exclusive route-Bus No. 92 (only available for night shift from Friday to Sunday)

1.Campus shuttle bus:
Time: 7:00 a. m. to 7:00 p. m.; Fee: free; Route: 2 routes to and from the living area and each teaching building and 1 dining line
Route ①: Departing from Gate 1 of Living Zone 2 → Passing through Lide Road → Gate 2 → Teaching and Laboratory Buildings (at the intersection of Siyuan Avenue and Jiaorong Avenue) → Exclusive buildings for Minzu University and Beijing Sport University → Library → Communication University of China → Gate 2 → Gate 1.

Payment method: Scan to pay with WeChat or Alipay (no deposit required); Pricing: 2 yuan for every 15 minutes, with an additional 1 yuan for every 10 minutes after the first 15 minutes.

VII. Sports
Within the experimental zone, there are sports fields, gyms, and an air-supported gymnasium (including sports courts such as badminton and table tennis, among others, all of which can be used for free). The comprehensive gymnasium is currently under construction and will offer more sports facilities upon completion.
